At the General Assemby of April 14, 2010, the Active Members of Earthship Belgium VZW reshaped and prepared the organization for future developments. This needed adaptation of our statutes to which our organization has taken shape. Furthermore, the Active Members appointed a new Board of Directors for an indefinite period.

The overall look of the organization is as follows:

Supporting members:
Those members who pay their yearly membership and by doing so, support the association financially. They enjoy certain advantages.

Honorary members:
Every natural person who, on his or her on account of special and /or longterm contribution to the purposes as mentioned in article 2 of the regulations (statutes) of Earthship Belgium vzw (n.p.o.), as well as from inside or from outside the association, has been nominated as thus by the Governing Council. This means a lifelong honorary unsalaried membership. Honorary members enjoy the same advantages as supporting members.

Active members:
Every Supporting Member or Honorary Member, who is voluntarily active within the association for a prolonged period, can apply the Borad of Directorsl to become a Active Member. Active Members have the right to vote at the General Assembly (GA) as well as all rights and duties (obligations) as embedded in the Belgian legislation and the regulations of the association. Active  Members enjoy the same advantages as Supporting Members. In addition, they have access to the member area of the website.

General Assembly:
Yearly meeting of the Active members. At this Assembly the Board of Directors presents the activity report and annual account of the past year, as well as the budget and action plan for the coming year. All these documents are presented to the Active members for approval. Each Active Member has one vote in the Assembly. The General Assembly is entitled to appoint and dismiss Board members.

The Board of Directors:
Active Members, who have been appointed as Board Members by the General Assembly, in accordance with the legal (Belgian law applies) and statutory rights and duties. The task of the Board of Directors is to perform the day-to-day operations of the association. The main tasks of the chairman, the vice chairman, the archivist, the secretary and the treasurer are statutorily appointed.


Current Board of Directors:

  • WillyChairman:
    Willy Raets is the Roadrunner under the current council. He has already proven by his enormous dedication and vision in the past that he is the right person to carry the function of chairman.
  • DavidVice chairman and archivist:
    David Verstappen got caught by the earthship virus during the construction of an earthship demo in Belgium under supervision of Michael Reynolds. Later he attended a construction workshop in Sweden and payed a visit to (earthships in) Ger and Zwolle. Yes, this is the same motivated 'old fellow' who in 2000 has funded the association and did a lot of work for it during 10 years as chairman.
  • FlorySecretary:
    Florence Van Tendeloo, since the funding of the association the faithful secretary and translater of volume II and III of Michael Reynolds books, a task she will continue to perform with enthousiasm.
  • DaanTreasurer:
    Daan Dessers jumps on board of the earthship association with his youthful energy. He is anxious to help with the building of an earthship and was even willing to travel to Scotland to do so. He will be guaranteeing that the accountancy and the financial part in general is filed with accuracy.

 

Board Meeting:
This is the regular meeting of the Borad members where they discuss the day-to-day routine or progress of the association, in which they take care for the execution of the action plan of the following year, with the budget made available by the General Assembly. Furthermore the financial questions and the progress of the work-, research- and project-groups are discussed. Other agenda items are the planning and preparation of the yearly GA, the determination of how much the membership contribution should be, and the admission of Active Members.

Volunteers:
Anyone, whether member or not, can work as a volunteer on a variety of tasks within the association. Therefore we have work-, research-, and project-groups. These tasks can range from the writing of articles for the website to the effective/ actual assistance during the construction of an earthship.

Work-, research-, and project-groups:
The area of the tasks of these groups is determined by the Borad of Directors. In this way, each construction project will have its own project-group with its specific job description for each unique project. One of the members of the Board of Directors is appointed as chairman for a group and will be responsible for the performance of the group. Within these tasks the group is allowed to operate independently. The groups are made up by volunteers, whether they are members or not.

Assembly of a Work-, Research- or Project-group:
If needed, Work-, Research and Project-groups can hold a meeting within their group. These meetings will handle the expectations of the group and how to realize them within the described area.
